Why Skulls?
Ask most people outside the alternative scene why skull jewellery is so popular and you'll usually get a shrug, or a guess about Halloween. But skulls have been part of human decoration for a lot longer than one spooky season. From memento mori jewellery in the Victorian era — pieces designed to remind the wearer that life is short — to Day of the Dead sugar skulls celebrating rather than fearing death, the skull has always meant more than "scary." It's a symbol of mortality, yes, but also of honesty, rebellion, and living without pretending you'll live forever.
